Competing Successfully at Career Faires
Saturday 13 February 2010 @ 6:31 am

Standing out at a Career Faire can make a difference in your job hunting. Career Faires are starting to pick up, and a major job search company is running some nice ones, called Targeted Job Fairs. At a SF Bay Area Career Fair in early 2010, 10 companies as showing up, and Dice has 82 career faires scheduled for 2010 across the United States.

How do you rise above the crowd at a Career Faire? The rivalry can be considerable, but you can help yourself leap out from the gang with early homework. At AA-Careers, we have a simple step-by-step process to prepare. Planning to go? Here’s how to prepare:

First, research the companies that are going and pick your targets. Use the web to research the companies that are there beforehand. Go to their internet sites and see if they have their job openings posted. Pick a limited number to go after, and get ready to spend up to an hour researching each one. It’s hard to do more than nine in a day, and five or six is a much more reasonable target. For each company, you want to know: key product lines, recent news, and executive names. Try to see if you know anyone at the target companies. You’ll end up with a page or two of research for each company/job.

Second, if there are job postings on the web, read them to see what the organization is looking for. Create a mapping of your achievements and skills to the prerequisites of the job. Make the nomenclature match. If the hiring company calls customers "clients", your resume should do the same thing. The achievements should be written in the style of the hiring organization.

Third, create a ‘mini sales pitch’ for each likely company/position combination. Write down a 90 second ‘thumbnail’ that you can repeat out loud depicting why you are a good prospect for that position. You’ll use this in your resume and when you meet the company at the job kiosk.

Fourth, modify your resume for each position. The objective on your resume should exactly match the job you’re want. The executive summary should be a written form of your “mini sales pitch” for the job. Then choose the achievements and skills that most clearly match the job prerequisites. Especially at a Job Faire, the purpose of your resume is a sales tool for you – to get you on-site job interviews. It should be quick to see that you’re a fit based on your resume.

Fifth, dress and prepare as if you’re doing on-site interviews. Dress well and be properly groomed. Don’t overdress (this isn’t a date!) and don’t underdress (no jeans or t-shirts, no matter how much you paid for them). Avoid strong cologne or perfume.

Finally, practice your ‘mini-sales-pitch’. Collect your research and the resume for each spot - bring a couple of copies for each – and put each in a intelligibly tagged folder. Keep them in a light briefcase or folio.

Remember to smile, and good hunting!

T-Mobile All Set to Come Up with New Christmas Gifts this Year
Monday 26 October 2009 @ 7:57 pm

After being the first UK mobile broadband provider planning to stop the popular laptop deals at lower rates, T-Mobile has decided to shift its focus to Christmas presents this time.

While talking to Broadband Genie, one of the provider’s spokespersons said that the coming months would see a complete shift of the company’s focus towards the newly launched gift packages for the festive season ahead. These gift packs have been designed in a way that they enable mobile broadband connections to be given out as gifts to family and friends.

Though the main reason behind the shift is the fact that many people already own laptops, some of the customers were apprehensive as to whether this would mean a complete withdrawal of the laptop scheme from the market. However, the spokesperson has said that the company is planning to stop renewing the stock, which in turn would mean that the deal would still be available as long as the existing stocks last.

The Christmas gift pack includes a number of choices for consumers. It has a 30 days’ free broadband service on purchase of a £19.95 dongle and top up £2, as well as a quarterly unlimited browsing for £44.03, and another scheme for year’s unlimited browsing for £146.80.

Musicians Brainstorm for a Solution to Stop Illegal File-sharing
Tuesday 13 October 2009 @ 6:37 am

Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason united with over 100 British musicians in an attempt to fight online piracy, particularly the menace of music downloads. Great names in the music industry like George Michael, Annie Lennox, Lily Allen, and Ed O’ Brien (Radiohead guitarist) were part of the discussion that lasted over 2 hours. Singer Lily Allen, who had been disparaged earlier for her views on piracy, was also present in the meeting. She however was not available for an interview.

An earlier debate on whether illegal file-sharers should be penalized had resulted in public dispute and scathing criticism by the media. Initially many people had decided that the best solution to check online piracy was to suspend the internet account of the user involved in such illegal activity. Because the internet has become a basic need for most of us, and with the advent of mobile broadband and free laptops, it can be accessed whenever and wherever a person wants; many now consider broadband access as a ‘utility’, this makes the thought of people not being allowed access extraordinary.

However, now many believe that a better idea is to track down the offender and stifle their bandwidth. Actual implementation of this method was also discussed in the meeting, wherein the artistes proposed sending two warning letters to the offender before taking action. However, if the defaulter persists even after these two warnings, then the only solution left would be to choke his bandwidth.

Bandwidth restrictions will only affect only file sharing, and it will not have any detrimental impact on the regular functions of the internet such as surfing, mailing etc. An earlier view echoed by Business Secretary Lord Mandelson of temporarily suspending connections of illegal users as the last remaining option also found general acceptability in the meeting.

Unlimited VoIP Calls from St. Louis, MO
Wednesday 16 September 2009 @ 12:30 pm

What is unlimited VoIP? VoIP stands for Voice over Internet Protocol. Unlimited VoIP is a type of phone service that gives you the option of making unlimited calls from the United Sates or Canada using a monthly plan or pay as you go plan. Long distance can be very expensive. If you make frequent calls to other countries it is recommended getting some type of unlimited VoIP plan. You connect your phone to you high speed internet connection using an analog phone adaptor or another internet phone, it’s that simple. A analog phone adapter allows you to connect your phone using a broadband connection by connecting it to your modem.

If you live in St. Louis, MO and you want to call Paris, France, with the unlimited VoIP you won’t have to pay long distance charges. Unlimited VoIP companies offer an international DID phone number or Virtual Number. If you only call your international location a few times, unlimited calling may cost more then you want to spend. If you do only call a few times per year find the best international rates and pay as you go.

Unlimited VoIP in St. Louis has the same features like a traditional phone but with no additional cost such as call waiting, caller ID w/ name, voice mail, last number redial, cal transfer, distinctive ring, three-way calling, call notify, and directory assistance (411). Some plans also have the feature of keeping the same number if you move.

Unlimited VoIP is not related to your computer, it’s independent from it. All you will need is a working phone line. Calling international countries can give off impression that the quality of the call will be muffled or distorted. This couldn’t be more wrong. With the current technologies in place for international VoIP calling it will sound as if the person you are calling is in the next room.

Carphone Warehouse Releases Impressive Quarterly Results
Monday 3 August 2009 @ 6:07 am

Carphone Warehouse, the most reputed and largest mobile retailer in the UK, has increased the customer base for its home broadband service TalkTalk to about 2.85m subscribers.

In its recent quarterly report, Carphone revealed increasing its customer base by nearly 50,000, which in the last quarter was about 74,000 and the increase in the quarter before last was only 36,000. Carphone representatives also claimed that the total amount spent by a customer had also increased over the quarter by about 5 percent.

Charles Dunstone, Chief Executive of Carphone, commenting on the positive results, attributed them to the new features available to TalkTalk customers, like faster download speeds, more security, and call packages.

He added that as Carphone gave importance to a value for money positioning, it was in a better position than other broadband providers, due to recession. The company has also managed to move almost 60,000 customers to its own network, which means that 79 percent of its customer base is now on its unbundled network - great news in terms of cost rationalization.

Attractive pricing, prioritizing value added features and a strong customer service team are the most important features that have ensured the success of TalkTalk. However, these positive statistics are without taking into consideration the recent takeover of Tiscali UK, which incidentally was after the reporting period.

Tesco Jumps on the Mobile Broadband Bandwagon
Tuesday 2 June 2009 @ 5:17 am

Not satisfied with its success in marketing grocery, Tesco is now gunning for a piece of the mobile broadband pie. The company has announced that it would double the number of in-store mobile shops, which offer mobile phones and mobile broadband packages.

The company plans to increase the number of these outlets from 41 to 100 by December 2009. This expansion is part of a strategic move by Tesco, which plans to increase its profit from non-core areas of business, such as telecom and banking, to £1 billion per annum.

Tesco is already the third-largest retailer in Europe, which shows its massive reach. An increase in the number of their telecom stores may well signal a shift in the behaviour of UK broadband consumers and initiate a rivalry between Tesco and Carphone Warehouse, another mobile retailer (click to compare mobile internet).

Shaun Collins, one of the analysts at CCS Insight telecoms consultancy, comments that Tesco’s excellent reach, loyal customer base, and thorough customer research will benefit the company in this endeavour.

However, Collins also warns that though this move is strategically significant, it is not on a large enough scale. Thus, it is unlikely that the mobile broadband retail sector will be transformed anytime soon, which means that Carphone Warehouse, the current leader in this field with 900 stores all over the UK, can still reign safely for a while.

Internet Conference Calls Present Opportunities to Reduce Fatty Sales Overhead
Monday 2 March 2009 @ 5:01 pm

Gas costs are soaring and this is making company expenses are pressed to the limit worse than ever before. As the economy lumbers along slowly and credit remains scarce, prudent executives know redundant costs must cut. Company directors everywhere have to make a few weighty choices to shrink costs. Perhaps the obvious option to reduce department costs is to hack away at unneeded travel expenses, and the easiest way is web conferencing.

Online conferencing allow anyone to communicate with stakeholders electronically in a appointment in a distant town, in another time zone or even more significantly in another continent. The usual online conference calling put to work revolutionary streaming services. Since that they usually conducted on almost any computer, they only consume no additional company overhead. Just from looking to the web, may an executive have a distant meeting from just about anywhere that has a high-speed connection. Its more than just everywhere, it has huge potential to reduce big travel five digits or more in a year.

Break throughs in digital technology make online conferencing calls possible for executives to share information and presentations simultaneously. Internet conference members can hear and see others as though they were really there, even if they are thousands of miles across the planet. The accuracy of the presentations audio and video can be without flaw given the highest standards in streaming video.

Obviously almost any business should reduce expenses by making use of web conferencing as opposed to blowing thousands dispatching an executive on a expensive trip. A business shouldnt waste money on meals, hotels and even transportation costs. These savings matter over a year. Any trip not taken is increased efficiency for a company. Its commonly known that many organizations are choosing Internet conference calls to reduce overhead on low-priority sales travel.
