Getting Noticed at Job Faires
Friday 29 January 2010 @ 10:26 am

Standing out at a Job Faire can make a difference in your search. Job Faires are starting to pick up, and a major job search company is running some nice ones, called Targeted Job Fairs. At a SF Bay Area Job Fair in January, 10 companies as showing up, and Dice has 82 career faires scheduled for 2010 across the States.

How do you stand out at a Job Fair? The contention can be noteworthy, but you can help yourself stand out from the bunch with advance planning. At AA-Careers, we have a simplified step-by-step process to get ready. Planning to go? Here’s how to prepare:

First, investigate the companies that are going and pick your objectives. Use the internet to check out the organizations that are there ahead of time. Go to their internet sites and see if they have their jobs listed. Pick a tenable number to go after, and get ready to spend an hour or more researching each one. It’s hard to do more than nine in a day, and four or five is a much more reasonable target. For each hiring company, you want to know: recent news, key product lines, and contacts you know. Try to see if you know anyone at the target companies. You will end up with with a page or two of research for each company/job.

Second, if there are job postings on the web, read them to see what the company is looking for. Create a mapping of your accomplishments and skills to the prerequisites of the job. Make the language match. If the hiring company calls customers "clients", your resume should do the same thing. The achievements should be written in the style of the hiring organization.

Third, create a ‘brief sales pitch’ for each potential company/job combination. Write down a 90 second ‘thumbnail’ that you can repeat out loud showing why you are a fantastic prospect for that job. You’ll use this in your resume and when you meet the company at the job kiosk.

Fourth, modify your resume for each job type. The objective on your resume should exactly match the job you’re aiming for. The executive summary should be a written form of your “mini sales pitch” for the job. Then choose the achievements and skills that most clearly match the job description. Especially at a Job Faire, the purpose of your resume is a sales tool for you – to get you on-site job interviews. It should be simple to see that you’re a match based on your resume.

Fifth, rehearse your ‘mini-sales-pitch’. Collect your research and the resume for each position - bring a couple of copies for each – and put each in a distinctly marked folder. Keep them in a lightweight briefcase or folio.

Finally, dress and prepare as if you’re doing on-site interviews. Dress nicely and be properly groomed. Avoid strong cologne or perfume…use any eau de cologne or scent sparingly, if at all.

Remember to smile, and good hunting!

As time passed, these manuscript volumes were owned by lots of such clergymen and affluent people in a large number. These volumes found a place in the cupboard or on a shelf. bookcases sold now have these cupboards as ancestors, but dont have doors always.

How were the books placed in these shelves?

The books were arranged in a orthodox way. They used to be piled upon each other on their sides or kept upright with their edges on the outside and the backs facing the wall. A band of vellum or leather was utilised for inscription of the title and also closed the book. the books edge showed its name and thats why they had to face outwards.

anybody who liked reading could purchase books due to the publishing innovation. printing created it manageable to have the title on the back and edges presenting inside.

What materials were used?

Oak was the primary material in creating a barrister bookcase. But if you liked you could order for a bookcase in maple, cherry and pine wood likewise. You can also go for economical choices such as steel in producing a barrister bookcase. Some of the oldest bookcases are in England in the Bodleian Library at Oxford University. They are located here since the sixteenth century.

The Power Behind E-books
Sunday 6 April 2008 @ 5:48 pm

Have you ever wondered what all the hype is about e-books? Why are they so popular? Would you be able to write your own e-book? These are just a few of the questions we will answer in today’s article.

E-books are found almost everywhere on the internet. There are even libraries where you can download free e-books onto your computer. Many of these e-books are free because they are in the public domain, but there are some that have been written specifically to boost advertising.

We are now living in the “information age” where people want to get valuable input quickly and easily. This is where e-books lead the way in a world where information is so often sought after. The contribution of e-books to the internet marketplace is one of the forerunning advertisement methods in use today.

How is it used to promote your business?

By offering e-books to those people who visit your site, you are allowing your visitors to know a bit more about the product/service you are promoting. By writing on a topic that you are familiar with you set yourself up as an expert in your particular field.

By using a form to capture your visitor’s names and email addresses you are also building up your very own opt-in mailing list. Is it any wonder that so many people are using this as a viral marketing tool?

Perhaps you are wondering how you too can get on the bandwagon of writing e-books to help boost the traffic to your website or organization.

Obviously, first you must write the e-book. What should you write your e-book on? Your e-book should be based on information that you are already familiar with. Do you have a particular niche that you would like to promote? Then write according to your expertise.

For example, if you are a dog lover, you could write a book about taking proper care of canines, or write about a particular type of dog that you are familiar with. It is more advantageous to write about something concerning your particular market but writing about a complimentary market could also bring you leads that you can use to boost your business.

The important point is to get your name out in the public eye of the internet community so that they will look to you for the expert advice that you can offer.

What if you cannot write a book? You may have ideas and know what you want to talk about but you are unable to compose your thoughts in a clear, precise manner. In this situation, all is not lost. You can hire, usually for a small fee, someone else to write the book for you. This is called “ghostwriting” and is actually a very common practice.

To hire a ghostwriter it is your responsibility to make sure that he/she knows what it is you wish to convey in your e-book and they will go about and write the book for you.
You pay them to write the e-book but it is your name that appears as the author.

Once your book is written it must be converted to either an html file or a .pdf file. This is a simple process with a .pdf converter. I personally use PDF995. This is a free converter with an advertisement each time you use it. To get rid of the advertisement there is a small one-time fee of $9.95.

Adobe Acrobat Reader is able to show the file in its own window and can be downloaded free at http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html .

Now that you have the knowledge, the rest is up to you. The power behind e-books is the leverage it will give you in the internet marketplace. Get started today.

Review: 3d Toons Creative 3D Design For Cartoonists and Animators
Thursday 3 April 2008 @ 11:42 am

Authors: Steve & Raf Anzovin
ISBN: 0764129511

3d Toons Creative 3D Design For Cartoonists and Animators is a powerhouse of information that focuses on artistic choices in explaining to its readers how 3D cartoonists reach their goals. As mentioned in the inside flap of the book, “3D cartoons are becoming the hottest thing in Hollywood, and they are also taking over TV.”

The book is written by authors who have an enormous and intimate knowledge of 3D cartoons. Steve Anzovin is the CEO of Anzovin Studio, a computer-generated character animation that he co-founded with his son Raf. Their objective in putting together this book was to deemphasize the teaching of techniques and focus on the “nitty-gritty” inner workings of the creative process.

It is amazing how much effort and talent is required in the making of an animation. Readers are informed how 3D characters and sets are brought to life in cartoons, graphic novels, and computer-animated short films. It thus is more than a “fresh look” at 3D animation but rather a fresh attempt to appreciate the immense creative process that is required.

The examination of this creative process is neatly organized into seven sections that are in turn sub-divided. The authors examine and explore 3DToonstyle, Toon Evolution, Anatomy of a Toon, Animated Toons, Shooting Toons, Toon Media, and 3dToon Gallery.

Each section is prefaced with a succinct overview and thoughtful queries prompting reflection and discussion. For example, when you look at the chapter dealing with toonstyle, readers are asked, what makes a cartoon character? From this point of reference the authors analyze why they look, act, and sound the way they do.

The book does not necessarily have to be read in a particular order and the newcomer to animation as well as the novice can easily open it to any section and garner useful information.

Spectacular and easy to follow illustrations enhance the book’s informative as well as its aesthetic appeal. Each image contains sidebar explanations as to how and why they were created in a particular manner. To illustrate, if you refer to the section pertaining to Cartoony Toons, there is an example of three images that are stripped-down cartoon faces without bodies and we are informed that is all a character needs. As explained, these bodiless characters were designed for medical animation aimed at children of cancer patients.

The final chapter exposes the best of 3D Toon Art. It is here where we have a glance at the work of some of the giants in the field such as Jimmy Maidens, Robert J. Tiess, Yves Dalbiez, Sebastian Schoellhammer, Avalanche Software (Video Game Animation), Victor Navone, David Maas & Tatjana Herrmann-Maas, Shaun Freeman, Michael Sormann, Reel FX Creative Studios, and Patrick Beaulieu.

As well as explaining at appropriate points within the various sections’ key concepts, the authors provide a glossary of quick definitions of the 3D Toon Terms used in the book, as well as suggestions for further reading. There is also a very helpful index.

Fledgling 3D animators, students, dreamers, and those who want to learn more about this fascinating topic will have a great deal of fun with this accessible book. It will most certainly become part of the required reading of many a course on animation, as it will prove to be quite an asset.
